Free support groups starting in August
Weekly, online mental health support groups are starting next month, at no charge. Why? Because we are social beings who need each other. We have never been more connected (social media, email, text) yet we remain so disconnected from ourselves and others.
Three groups (teens, women, men) will begin the week of August 12, 2024, at 7:00-8:30 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If you are interested in joining a group or would like more information, call or text (512) 222-4093 or email counselor.ewoody@gmail.com. Meetings are all via ZOOM.
Groups can complement regular individual therapy sessions by reinforcing therapeutic goals, offering diverse perspectives, and promoting a holistic approach to mental health recovery.
Additional information:
Social connection and participating in social support groups help on so many levels. Benefits include:
Providing a safe and empathetic environment where individuals can share their experiences and challenges without judgment.
Fostering a sense of belonging and understanding.
Building a sense of community and reducing isolation, particularly for individuals facing mental health challenges(anxiety, depression, etc).
Providing a platform to gain insights and strategies from others facing similar struggles.
The encouragement and accountability from group members can significantly enhance personal growth. Regular meetings and interactions in support groups promote the development of meaningful relationships and a reliable network of peers who can offer encouragement, empathy, and practical advice.
Professionally-led groups, in particular, offer the added benefit of guidance from trained facilitators who can provide expert advice and structured interventions.
Additionally, support groups can empower members to take an active role in their communities, contributing to a collective effort to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma.
